Baidu PC Faster is a freeware application for Windows that includes a suite of tools to defend against malware, clean your PC, optimize it, personalize it and more. It’s optimized for Windows XP, 7 and 8, and it’s completely free: no hidden fees, ad support and so forth. It packs a lot of functionality into a single app, and it compares well in that regard to similar programs that cost.
Some suites like Baidu PC Faster can be intimidating to new users, but this program has a UI that’s well-organized, welcoming to new users and easy to use. One omission—for those familiar with suites like this—is a one-click option. Every tool included here has to be run one at a time. These tools include a disk cleaner with four unique cleaning modes, an award-winning antivirus engine, a Facebook repairer, a file shredder, a disk defragmenter, a hotspot app and much more.
Included in that much more is Win Update, which will scan for system weakness, recommend patches and can even deal with some of the blind spots that the official Windows Update tool has. Another is SpeedUp that identifies common Windows issues and can automatically tweak settings in order to realize faster, smoother and more consistent performance. It can find unused and unnecessary files as well as direct you to installed programs that haven’t been used in a long time.
As mentioned, it has a malware scanner, but that depends on online definitions, so an Internet connection is required. Despite being freeware, Baidu PC Faster is fully supported, but that largely depends on Web access as well. Windows isn’t officially supported and may never be, but it still works to a large degree. Just recognize that some components may not be applicable.
Baidu PC Faster is a strong toolbox solution that packs in many capabilities at no cost. It may not be the best solution at any one task, but you can’t beat the price. The program isn’t without shortcomings. The scan engine is memory-intensive, and laptops and older systems without a lot of memory will certainly feel the pinch. It may be best to use this program during planned periods of inactivity. This toolbox also doesn’t take advantage of Windows restore points, so you’ll need to manage those points yourself.

Baidu PC Faster is a solid program that offers a lot for a little. It’s not perfect, however. As with all Windows “cleaning” tools, users should take care not to delete a file or make a change without a restore point created. Also, the scanning engine can be quite the memory hog, which can cause performance issues when running depending on how much memory your system has. Finally, the malware detector relies on cloud-based processing and definitions, which means that it can’t run without an active Internet connection.
